Why do we procrastinate? Stephen Guise (in the quote below) is right: it's not laziness — it's anxiety.
But that’s only part of the story. More often than not, our anxiety is rooted in a lack of clarity. We’re unclear about what really matters, or what the next step should be. And this fog of uncertainty only deepens our sense of dread.
It gets more tangled when perfectionism enters the picture. We delay because we want things to be done just right — and until we feel perfectly prepared, we hold off. But perfection is a moving target. And in trying to hit it, we freeze.
So procrastination isn’t a moral failure. It’s a signal — pointing us toward deeper needs: for clarity, for courage, and for grace.
