December is always a busy time. I hope you are able to take some time for personal and spiritual renewal. There's a lot going on in my world. I shared these last week, but in case you missed it ...
(1) I have taken a call to serve as the pastor of Bethel Church in Princeton, MN. I will be ending my tenure at Loop Church in Chicago, and Charlene and I will be moving to Minnesota at the end of the year. Loop Church is contracting with Derek Buursma, who served as pastoral intern a couple years ago, to be the interim pastor after I leave.
(2) Charlene and I will be teaching in Thailand in March. We are going at the invitation of Youth With a Mission (YWAM) Thailand. We'll be teaching missionaries, counselors, and pastors about addiction and recovery, and I'll also do a separate conference for pastors about healthy leadership. We be seeking to raise money to pay for our travel expenses, and to offer a gift to YWAM for their important ministry. You'll be hearing more about this in the future, but file this away for
now: Thailand is a center for the tragic and growing industry of sex trafficking and sex tourism. It's also a country going through tremendous transition, and in the midst of this, there are huge challenges with addiction.
