In this week's video, I tried to condense material from a lecture I've given -- which resulted in an online class some years ago -- about the problem with today's mental health treatment. I started the journey down the rabbit hole as I was trying to find ways to help people find recovery from addiction. It seemed like every "expert" I read or talked to identified the problem (of addiction) in terms centered around their area of expertise, and the
solution was the expertise that they offered. I kept thinking to myself: "It's more complex than that ... and that's why people are struggling so much to find sustainable recovery."
Since then I've come to see that this issue is not limited to addiction and recovery, it's applicable to MANY mental health issues.
This week I'm also letting you know about a workshop I've been working on. I'd love to share it with your community.
If you like the video, please share it, and also subscribe to the channel. Once I reach a certain threshold of subscribers, I will be able to do more things with the channel -- such as create its own custom name and other things. Let me know what you think!

2. New Seminar: Mentally Healthy, Mentally Strong: facing the internal struggles that define our lives
I've put together a workshop that I'd love to give at your church or community organization. Up until now (prior to the pandemic), this kind of workshop has been important and helpful -- and I've led many of them. But now, in our situation today, this kind of seminar is paramount.
Quick Overview of the Seminar
I would focus on three particular aspects of this struggle, and depending on the audience, I could give more or less attention to each of these three:
- Struggles with Anxiety
- Struggles with Discouragement / Depression
- Struggles with Desire (sexual temptation, intimacy)

3. FEATURE VIDEO TEACHING:
Length: 11 minutes, 20 seconds
4. Helpful Article I'd Recommend
I don't do this every week -- and lately I haven't been doing it very often at all -- but this week I found something so timely and helpful (at least to me) that I wanted to share it. The article is found on the Christianity Today Website, and is entitled, "The Splintering of the Evangelical Soul."
I know that not all of you share my faith, and so may not find this as interesting as I did, but some of you will. The article does a really good job of summarizing the deep divisions within the American Evangelical church ... and these divisions seem to be growing every day. They are part of my daily life and work as a pastor.
For what it's worth, don't get bogged down in the long section at the beginning -- the stuff about the "plausibility and information curve". In fact, feel free to skip it altogether, and come back to it later if you want to. Start reading at the section "The Evangelical Crisis."
